MAN | Concert by Emilija Kortus in collaboration with the Nuoro Musical Institute – Thursday 13 April, 7.30 pm

The MAN, in collaboration with the Ente Musicale di Nuoro, is pleased to present the Emilija Kortus concert which will be held at the museum on April 13th at 7.30 pm.

At a cost of 10 euros it will be possible to attend the concert and take advantage of the guided tour of the current exhibitions.

Emilija Kortus was born in Toronto (Canada) in 1994 and raised in Belgrade, Serbia. He started playing the violin at 5 years old. He won the first prize in the State Competition in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and in 2009 he won the first prize in the first national competition for young violinists of the ‘Société General Serbia’. Thanks to all these recognitions, the Serbian Ministry of Youth awarded her with a state scholarship.

From 2006 to 2010 she studied with Dejan Mihailović and performed numerous times in the Kolarac Hall in Belgrade. At 16 she was officially admitted to the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade where she studied with Maria Spengler and performed in numerous concerts organized by the University, including as a violinist in the “St. George Strings.” She performed solo recitals in the “Serbian Gallery of Science and Arts” from 2011 to 2014, winning the “Stanojlo Rajicic” award for the best recital of the 2013/14 season. Performed the premiere of John Cage’s “Cheap Imitation” in the Cultural Center of Serbia. In August 2011, 2012 and 2013 he took part in “The International Holland Music Sessions”, studying with David Takeno, Krzysztof Wegrzyn and György Pauk in Bergen, Holland.

In 2011 and 2014 he took part in masterclasses in the south-east of France, studying and sharing the stage with Nemanja Radulović. The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Serbia once again rewards Emilija with a scholarship for her academic achievements. After graduating in 2014 he continued his studies in Leipzig, Germany with Carolin Widmann. In 2018 she completed her master’s degree but continued to study with Carolin for another two years of specialization “Meisterklassenexamen” at the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig, one of the youngest artists to be admitted to the program. Since 2016 he has been part of the Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig (mko-leipzig), and plays with them in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Also in 2018 he played at the HARMOS Festival in Porto, and at the Houston Tour organized by HMT Leipzig and the Shepherd School of Music. Very active in solo performances and chamber music, she performs in recitals in the Mendelssohn-Haus in Leipzig and also takes part in the Notenspur Project in Leipzig. Also in 2018 she performed in Geneva and was one of the winners of the Deutschlandstipendium. From 2018 until 2020 it is part of the Potsdam Kammerakademie. In June 2020 Emilija was granted use of a violin from 1680 by luthier Francesco Rugeri thanks to a loan from the University of Music and Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ in Leipzig. He currently plays in the “Berolina Ensemble” in Berlin, in the “Geneva Camerata” in Geneva, and performs solo and in chamber music ensembles. In recent months he recorded his first solo CD which he presented in the concert for the season of the Nuoro Musical Institute.
