European Researchers’ Night

30 Sep 2022

The intent of this event is to celebrate the ingenuity and creativity of artists and scientists involved in visual perception. The most important and spectacular optical illusions and links with Art will be demonstrated. Prof. Baingio Pinna will be present with some students from the University of Sassari and the director of MAN, Chiara Gatti.

Reality usually appears truthful, unique, identical and absolute. Perception seems to depend on the simple act of opening our windows to the world, our eyes, to reveal everything that populates physical reality. The only exception are optical illusions, scientifically studied by neuroscientists in order to understand the cortical mechanisms and cognitive processes responsible for vision. Optical illusions are also an object of interest in the so-called Optical Art and Kinetic Art resulting from the research of the Bauhaus, De Stijl and Futurism. Not only. All art is inextricably linked to the illusions of the mind in all its dimensions. The aim of the exhibit is to spread the scientific and artistic culture generated by illusions to the general public. This will be implemented through the perception, presentation, discussion and above all the manipulation by the public of a multiplicity of illusory phenomena with a strong visual impact.
