The museum MAN of Nuoro, in collaboration with the Monte Verità Foundation of Ascona (CH) throws a open call For Sardinian authors (under 45) as part of a joint project of residencies for young artists.
Participants are invited to submit, no later than September 15, 2022 , the synopsis of a research project to be conducted in Monte Verità, where they will come into direct contact with the history, identity and magnetism of the place. The project must in fact be the outcome of a reflection on the authentic nature of the Mount which will welcome the guest artists called to carry out their research by inhabiting every space of the famous “hill of utopia”.
At the dawn of the twentieth century, Monte Verità was in fact an extraordinary cradle of European counterculture, marked by memorable presences. From the anarchist Kropotkin to the Hungarian choreographer Rudolf von Laban, from the dadaist Hugo Ball to the architect Walter Gropius, from the artist Hans Arp to Karl Gustav Jung, up to the great curator Harald Szeemann who, fascinated by the power of the hill, dedicated a traveling exhibition to it in 1978 “The breasts of truth” now rearranged in the local museum of Casa Anatta. At Monte Verità architecture, art and dance have always dialogued in a virtuosity against the backdrop of a community of free men, an anarchic paradise that has attracted thinkers, painters, writers, philosophers, designers from every corner of Europe. In one hundred years of utopia and ideals, spirituality and alternative practices, from vegetarianism to the sunbathing of the Lebensreform, from theosophy to psychoanalysis, the Mount has inspired the free expression of human genius through the harmonious exercise of the body, aesthetic research, poetry.
The competition for the assignment of a residence will offer a 3 young Sardinian artists the possibility of conducting a project on site, welcomed by this foreign institution twinned with the MAN. This is an agreement that will be enriched, in a second edition, by an important triangulation between other places of culture, in addition to the MAN of Nuoro and the Monte Verità Foundation of Ascona (CH) also the Museo Novecento of Florence. The works created during the residency will become part of the MAN collection.
